General Updates

The pavilion was heaving on Saturday as supporters descended on the club for League leaders clash, Bective versus Monkstown. The Pre-match lunch hosted by President David O‘Donnell was attended by over 100 supporters and guests from both clubs. David welcomed Monkstown President Frank Condon to Bective while mentioning the close ties and especially the players who have played for both clubs.

One notable change at the lunch on Saturday was that funds from the regular ‘’Lunch Envelope Draw’’ were donated to UNICEF. President David O’Donnell mentioned during his speech that everyone might dig a little deeper into their pockets for this worthy charity.

Suffice to say that the draw at the Bective Pre match lunch raised €1,825 for UNICEF. Well done to all the diners on the day for their generous contribution.

So, onto the game which turned out to be an epic battle between the sides. Bective again down to every player, gave their all showing great character, coming from behind late in the game to lead with just 13 players on the pitch but with bad luck and a few questionable decisions going against us were pipped at the post by a single point. Bernard and all his coaching staff, Capt. Colin and every one of the players are a credit to Bective and we are all so proud of the team and what they have achieved so far this season. Nonetheless Bective for their huge effort and performance didn’t leave the game empty handed, scoring 4 tries and gaining 2 valuable bonus points in the process leaving Bective proudly leading the league into 2023 by 2 points with 6 games to go.

Please also read a very passionate piece from a Past player Simon ‘Chuck’ Byrne, and his experience on Saturday, the heroic performance from Bernard and the players and most important the direction Bective are heading in.

Kit Swap Night

January can be a tough time financially for everyone and Bective Rangers are here to help! Along with contributing to sustainability, this is a great way to kick off the second half of the season. This will take the form of a Kit Swap Night for all age groups including Minis, Youths and Adult teams.

If you have unwanted kit such as jerseys, shorts, socks and base layers, please drop them in to Mark O'Brien in the bar over the course of December. The club house is open most evenings and at weekends.

In January, each age group will have the opportunity to drop in and take whatever kit they wish, hopefully finding a new home. Any remaining kit will be donated to the Dublin Simon Community to make sure it is put to good use.

We will not accept scrum caps and gum shields for hygiene reasons. All kit should be washed and in reasonable condition before donating.

The dates for each age group to come in to the clubhouse and check out the kit are as follows:

Adult Junior Team - 11th January
Adults 1XV and 2XV - 12th January
Minis and Youths - 13th January

Team managers will communicate exact times closer to the date.
