Bective's second half onslaught too much for Gorey in Leinster League Division 1A fixture
Bernard Jackman’s side too powerful for the Clonattin brigade.
A 29-point second half onslaught from Bective Rangers dashed any hopes Gorey had of causing an upset on Sunday afternoon in this Leinster League Division 1A fixture at Energia Park, Donnybrook.
Bective had a 5-point lead at the half-time break, 5 - 0 the score, in what was an entertaining and competitive first 40 minutes. Gorey bottom of the table but only 3 points separating the teams above them were giving a good account of themselves knowing anything out of the game would be massive in their relegation battle.
So it was the back-to-back Leinster League 1A Champions who went up a gear in the second half subduing our opponents in an assured team display to secure a 34-5 victory.
Connor Halpenny and Shane O’Meara were the leading lights for Bective as they contributed a personal tally of 10 points each. Complementing the great performance were also tries from ‘prominent throughout’ centre Ben Kealy who unfortunately had to retire late with a serious shoulder injury. The coaches had to use all resources available on the day due to the current injuries to key players, and it was Harry Hughes winning his first cap for the 1XV coming of the bench to power over for the 6th and final try.
