Bective go top after bonus try win over Tullow
Bective although falling behind to an early try were always well in control of this Leinster League DIV1A clash in Donnybrook. The team on a great run now, took a while to settle after a stop go start and also getting to grips with the big physical Tullow pack. On 15 minutes a penalty kick into the Tullow 22, then a great lineout take from Jamie Lawless and a perfect rumble by the pack for the touchdown by Capt. Tiarnan McCloskey, Bective were on their way now. Although Tullow hit back with another try midway through the half, Bective kept working. Moving the ball wide at every opportunity Bective were well worth their lead at half time after a brace of tries from the brilliant Shane O’Meara and another from the outstanding no. 8 James Gallagher to secure the try bonus point too. All the tries converted by Mikey O’Hare with another outstanding kicking performance.
Half Time: Bective 28 – Tullow 14
Bective were to immediately put further daylight between the sides early in the half after a fabulous back line move into the Tullow 22 saw Matthew Gilsenan touch down near the posts. With the match returning to the stop go pattern of the first half and Bective controlling the play another score was on the cards for Bective and it duly arrived after a high tackle on Mattie Keane , the tap and go penalty was rumbled over by the pack for Conor Kelly to get touchdown under the posts. Mikey O’Hare popped over the conversion and bring his kicking tally for the match to an incredible 6 from 6. Fair play to Tullow they never gave up, and a late rally from their big ball carriers brought play into the Bective 22 and with carry after carry , scored their 3rd try just on full time.
A fantastic win for the squad which puts Bective top of the League on 29 points and in great shape for the trip to Wicklow next Saturday, KO 2.00 PM
