Successful day at Bective

Weekly Newsletter (6 Nov – 12 Nov)

GENERAL UPDATES

On our home turf last Saturday, the 1XV came from behind in the first half to record a brilliant 4 try bonus point performance by 37 – 32 over previously unbeaten Monkstown, moving Bective to 3rd place in the league, just sitting in behind co-leaders Monkstown and Seapoint.

The Pre Match Lunch was well attended with over 130 members and guests enjoying a fine meal served up by our caterer Vinnie Hanlon and his team. President Michael Shalloe welcomed Monkstown President David O’Brien and also a number of Past Presidents of both clubs attended the lunch too. The President made special mention and also welcomed the families of the late Paul Regan (Squirrel) and John Arigho to the lunch . A feature of the day were the many members (both Bective & Monkstown) who have connections to both clubs sitting down to the lunch.

A now regular presentation between the clubs is for the ‘Mick Doyle Cup’ which was originally played between the clubs back in pre AIL days. This now has a regular spot after the end of each fixture between the clubs and this time it was Bective’s turn, with Capt. Mattie Keane receiving the trophy from President of Monkstown David O’Brien.

Simon Byrne after match comments

Another great day down in Donnybrook yesterday. As always against our closest rivals Monkstown, the club was absolutely heaving. 125 sitting down to the pre match lunch, nail biting match and the clubhouse jammers again afterwards…

Mini’s

Results

U10's Malahide moved all their games to Donnybrook as their pitches were unplayable.  They won all their matches continuing a great start to their season.

U11's played away to Coolmine against some big sides and competed really well winning all their matches.

U15's produced the match of the weekend for the Mini’s, playing host to the Barbarians (Wanderers, DLSP and St. Brigid’s).  After a slow start and a tough first half, they staged one of the best comebacks and were narrowly pipped at the post.  With a much smaller squad, they were already under pressure but managed to play some scintillating rugby to only lose out by 2 points in an epic match .

10 minutes into the second half they were 45 - 5 down but went on a scoring spree and only conceded a late try to be beaten.  Congrats to Marcus and his team of coaches for instilling such resilience and a “never give up attitude” in their squad.

Final Score: Bective 48 – Barbarians 50
