1XV got their season back on track after a fantastic 6 try bonus point win over last season’s League runners-up Gorey.
Bective were at full strength with ex-Ireland 7’s Adam Leavy starting his first game for Bective in the centre and Bobby Holland returning to his school days at scrum half. Adam didn’t wait long to show his class with a fine break from inside his own half putting Bobby in for the opening try, converted by Mikey O’Hare, giving Bective the perfect start.

Unfortunately, Adam’s debut was short lived due to a leg injury, replaced by the ever reliable Titapu Pairama-Lewington.
The next 15 mins saw Bective increase the pressure on Gorey with Captain Mattie Keane’s pack dominant. Nonetheless, the play stayed scoreless with Gorey contesting the Bective lineout to good effect.
With Bective controlling the territory, a turnover on a Gorey scrum on their 22, resulting in quick hands and from a recycled ball near the Gorey line, Mikey O’Hare touched down in the corner with the difficult conversion missed.

Gorey responded as was expected as they upped their game but a combination of good defence and pressure on their scrum resulted in a scoreless period until near halftime.
Bective decided to use their bench early, Jamie Lawless replacing Tadhg O’Dwyer.
After a couple of close calls for Gorey, Bective again won a scrum on the Gorey 22. Another perfect shove by the Bective pack, then a lovely feed by Bobby Holland to Tim Carroll putting Shane O’Meara over for try number 3, converted by Mikey O’Hare.
Half-Time | Gorey 0 – Bective 19
Matthew Gilsenan kicked off and Bective immediately had territory. After a couple of perfect lineouts with Tiarnan McCloskey, Scottie Barron, Mark Bennett, Ger Ward and Jammie Lawless all carrying. A backline move resulted in an opening for Matthew Gilsenan to go over under the posts for the bonus point try, with Mikey O’Hare kicking the conversion.

Gorey were now playing for pride and all credit to their players, they took the game to Bective. Number 8 Stanley Hadden, brother of Ireland U20’s George being prominent. Also, 18 year old scrum half Seamus Tomkins having a fine game in tough circumstances. On 15 mins, with Bective on the back foot after a couple of mauls and a penalty pick and go, Gorey showed their quality with centre Joe Naughton touching down.

In fairness to Gorey, back again they came with a penalty under the Bective posts but for a knock on after a pick and go, they may have had another score.
Bective were having to work harder now bringing Ger Ward and Tadhg O’Dwyer back to the action and on 20 minutes, after a great move and passing by the backs, resulting in Mikey O’Hare putting Bobby Holland in under the posts for a converted try.
62 min | Gorey 5 – Bective 33
Bective opted to rotate and empty the bench now with Tom Dever, Kildare hooker Fintan O’Malley and Nicolò Tognon coming on.
A great passage of play began inside the Bective half by Tiernan McCloskey, then another big carry by Jamie Lawless and then Mark Bennett offloading to Shane O’Meara for his second try, converted way out by Mikey O’Hare.

Some further good play may have yielded another score, nonetheless, the Bective squad heading back up the N11 will be more than happy with their performance.
