It took a late Seapoint penalty to finally subdue Bective in a terrific Leinster League Div 1 clash at a wet and damp Donnybrook on Saturday.

Seapoint started the better team and after early pressure nearly had a try, let off for Bective.

Bective lifted the pressure with good defence, however, after a move on halfway and a break by No.7 Montayne led to good play by Seapoint, punching a few holes in the Bective defence, resulting in Sisk going over in the corner for a converted try.

A great chase and catch by Nicolo Piovan from an up and under by Matthew Gilsenan, brought play into the Seapoint half. Nice work and the maul from a great Bective lineout, resulting in Scottie Baron touching down.  Mikey O’Hare adding the points.

After play was brought to the Seapoint 22, another great Bective turnover on the Seapoint scrum allowed Bective to move the ball wide for Mark Bennett to make a great carry. With 8 mins to go, could Bective pull it out of the fire and get a draw?  Nonetheless, the kick off was kind to Seapoint and Bective had to withstand further pressure.  That said, Bective weathered the storm.  After another great take in a lineout from Ger Ward set-up for a great finish.  Bective were moving the ball well, punching holes in the Seapoint defence and after a number of high tackles, finally won a penalty under the posts.  Going for the scrum which Seapoint collapsed, Bective decided to take the 3 points on offer with time still on the clock.

From the kick off Bective gained possession and another great carry from Ger Ward brought play to the halfway.  Unfortunately, the ball was spilled and the chance was lost.  With Seapoint now in possession, it was smart play from their pack to win the penalty and with the last kick of the game, Geoff Mahon kicked the points to close out the game.
