13th Annual Memorial Walk

Sunday 28 January 2024

Sunday last was our 13th Annual Memorial Walk on the Wild Mountain Side, and we couldn’t have asked for a better January day – weather was fair with a slight southerly breeze.

Following a ‘team photograph’ a collection of Bective members set off at 9am from Glencullen at Johnnie Fox’s pub and in true Bective style, completed a section of the Wicklow Way in reverse.

Well, not walking in reverse but our journey of 20km approx. takes us along the Glencullen/Ballybrack road for about 4km and then a zigzag gentle climb over Tibradden and Two Rock mountain to a height of 565m above sea level – and it’s at that point we gather to reflect and remember our past members and also special thoughts for your own loved ones.

The trail then descends towards Dublin City with fantastic views over Dublin Bay and Howth Head, passing down Kilmashogue and St Columba’s College where we again gather at the Yellow House for a well-earned coffee.

From the Yellow House we follow the Dodder walkway – and some of us had the pleasure of seeing a ‘Dodder’ fox with her cubs and a beautiful Kingfisher hovering at the Rathfarnham weir – to arrive in Donnybrook for a scrumptious breakfast, laid-on by Sharon and Mark.

If you would like to go for a walk, talk or venture a day in the spirit of friendship and maybe discuss what’s good or not so good in life, or Bective, or the world, or just keep to yourself and go with flow, see you at Johnnie Fox’s Pub in Glencullen on Sunday the 26th of January 2025 and join-in on the next Walk on the Wild Side.  You’ll be more than welcome.
