GENERAL UPDATES

100 years after winning the Bateman Cup, Bective Rangers FC have added another All-Ireland Cup to their collection over their illustrious history.

In an epic encounter, the players gave one of the greatest displays in the Clubs 144 year history after defeating Enniskillen RFC in the Energia All-Ireland Jnr Cup Final at Ashbourne RFC last Saturday, making up for the disappointment of 12 months ago. Behind by 17 points after 34 mins, Bective staged an incredible comeback with tries either side of half-time to reel in Enniskillen and lead by 2 points early into the 3rd quarter of the game. Enniskillen showing all their class, regained the lead twice as the teams traded penalties into the last quarter of a titanic contest, to lead by 1 point. However Bective’s late try edged them back in front and they closed out the game fending off a gallant Enniskillen fightback, sparking off amazing celebrations after the final whistle blew.   Captain Tiarnan McCloskey (unlucky to miss the match through injury ) and last years Captain Mattie Keane, jointly accepted the Cup from IRFU President Declan Madden who also presented all the players with their medals in a memorable presentation on the pitch in front of the Ashbourne pavilion.

The Bective pavilion was heaving later on as one of the highlights of the Bective season the ‘Mini’s Annual Ball’ was in full flow. However, there was room for everyone in our fantastic clubhouse to enjoy the celebrations.  Thank you to Mark & Sharon and your staff for making the evening a special night for Bective.

So the 1XV & 2XV take a break for the International weekend and then it will be back to business as we head into our 3 remaining league matches.  First up it will be away to Suttonians on Saturday week, the 8th Feb followed by Seapoint at home on Sat 15th  Feb and then the last match away to Tullow on Sat 1st March.
