President’s Christmas Message
Dear Fellow Members,
We have had an exciting 2023 in Bective to say the least.
On the rugby front, our senior team are very much in the hunt for a third Leinster League title in a row by comprehensively winning their last three games, including a great All-Ireland Junior Cup semi-final win over Seapoint. We now look forward to the final against Ulster’s Ballyclare at the end of January. Our seconds remain unbeaten and are looking to win their fourth league title in a row. Our thirds have just had two great back to back wins, including a great victory over an unbeaten St. Mary’s side. They are now catching up in their league and looking forward to a strong cup campaign next spring. Well done to all the coaches and managers involved….
GENERAL UPDATES
What a fantastic way to finish 2023 and give all the members and supporters a super Christmas present as Bective qualified for the Energia All-Ireland Jnr. Cup Final after coming from 15 -3 down in the first half, to close out the game with a superb performance over League leaders Seapoint, winning 27-15 at Killiney last Saturday.
Note the fixture change due to All Ireland Final!
Bective v Gorey League match now moved to Sun 4th Feb ko 3pm. Venue Donnybrook.
Energia All Ireland Final, Ballyclare v Bective Rangers. KO 2.30pm , Sat 27 Jan Venue Dundalk RFC.

Results:
U13 HOME V Greystones Kick Off 12pm - Another close win against Greystones keeping them well in the hunt in the league.
U15 HOME V Malahide Kick Off 1.30pm - Lost to a tough Malahide side.
U17 – Ashbourne 24 Bective 25. Bective are top of the table after 2 wins from 2 games.
The mini section also welcomed a special visitor this weekend. The kids had a brilliant time with Santa! A big thanks to Seamus Griffin who very generously supplied all the selection boxes for the children.
The Mortell’s Interview
On our last interview before Christmas, Simon Byrne sat down with the Mortell family. Both Maurice Mortell Snr & Jnr who both served time a Bective Club Captains and talked about a number of the great matches and players they played with. Maurice Snr also recounts his first Irish International cap in Ravenhill and a number of the tries he scored in Irish Rugby career.

We have a limited number of tickets available to Members for the 6 Nations 2024:
Ireland v Italy - Sun 11 Feb @ 3pm, Aviva Stadium. Prices are €102 for Category 1; €87 for Category 2; €72 for Category 3 & €57 for Category 4
France v Ireland - Fri 2 Feb @ 8pm, Orange Velodrome, Marseille. Prices are not available yet.
Please note there is a €10 admin fee for each set of tickets purchased.

The Annual Club Dinner is on Friday, March 1st 2024 in the Clubhouse, Donnybrook

Sunday 28th January 2024 | Depart Johnny Fox’s Pub @ 9.00am – Arrive Donnybrook @ 1.00/1.30pm.
Call, text, WhatsApp, if available, to 087 2581631 or 087 2531818. Walking boots and (wet gear) – maybe Shorts and Shades – all are welcome. This is a great hike with spectacular views of Dublin Bay and the Wicklow Mountains. It isn't overly challenging, but a good workout.
