July Newsletter

Unfortunately, Sunday brought tragic news on the deaths of two St Michael’s College students, Andrew O’Donnell and Max Wall on the island of Ios in Greece. The thoughts from all at Bective at this time are to their grieving families, their wide circle of friends and the wider school community of St. Michael’s College.

General Updates

The recent AGM was well attended at the Clubhouse and all witnessed the President’s baton being passed from David O‘Donnell to Mick Shalloe. On behalf of all the members we would like to say well done to David on your fantastic Presidency and to wish Mick all the best for his Presidency in 2023/2024.

Also, on the evening “The Club Person of the Year” “Jim Clancy Trophy” was presented to our Honorary Treasurer Marisa Guerrero. Congratulations Marisa for all your work and dedication. A mention also and congratulations to John Bolger and Jimmy White on their election to Snr. Vice President and Jnr. Vice President for the coming season.

On behalf of the Executive and the members, a big thank you to Jack McEvoy our first Club Chairperson as he stands down from this role.  Jack commenced in his position during the height of Covid and he can feel proud of his work over his term of office when we look at the healthy position the Club is in today. Steve McGettigan steps into the Chair and all the members wish him the very best as Club Chairperson. Steve has held various positions throughout the club over many years as a member and player and will bring a wealth of experience to this role. Congratulations on your appointment Steve.

As you see from the photographs, work started on the Clubhouse improvements in early June and are now well under way. The roof (probably the longest roof of any rugby club in Leinster) has been completely replaced and further works are continuing as we write. Nonetheless, the business at the Clubhouse continues as the bar is open and the tennis season is up and running. Last week Mark O’Brien had a financial institution booked in for a day of staff bonding with a full meal served by our caterers Vinnie Hanlon. Well done Mark, it’s business as usual at Bective.

Your Executive Committee will be working away ensuring the club affairs are running smoothly through the summer and setting out our stall for the upcoming season.

The Bective Yearbook 2023/2024 is currently being drafted. Last season’s Yearbook was the best ever, so let’s make the Yearbook for next season even better.

The Executive are asking our members, supporters, family and friends to support our fundraising efforts at the Club. What better way to support Bective and have your company advertised in the Yearbook 2023/2024? The Club will include a copy of your company logo on our sponsorship page on the Bective website and you and a guest will be invited to a complimentary pre-match lunch during the season to show our appreciation for your support. So if you are in a position to sponsor an advert, please contact Valerie Stein at office@bectiverangers.com or at 087-2906557.
