President’s Christmas Message
Dear Members
It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of 2024, and it is even harder to believe where the club stands at the end of this calendar year, so I will just take this opportunity to remind everybody!
GENERAL UPDATES
Just the one match played at the weekend, and it was a heartbreaking end to the year as the 2XV went down fighting in the final of the Jim Byrne Cup to our Northside neighbours Suttonians. With the match in the balance at 10 – 10 into the final quarter, it was a breakaway try that settled the contest in the final minutes. Hard luck to all the players on a massive effort.
Result: Bective 10 – Suttonians 17
That said, the 2XV are in second place in the league - just the one point off the leaders, so more silverware to play for in 2025.
The league resumes early in 2025 with the visit of Co. Carlow on Sat Jan 4th. Carlow have had an up and down season so far and our recent game in Oak Park was a close enough match. Since then Carlow knocked Suttonians off the top of table a few weeks back, so they will be formidable opponents on the day.
See everyone on Saturday week in Donnybrook! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Always remember your support is key to the team’s success

BECTIVE MEN’S SHED
The ‘Bective Men’s Shed’ is for those retired members who can give an hour or two on a Thursday to devote to maintenance and development of our premises and for a meet up for tea/coffee. We are keen to develop the rear of the pavilion so that it can be used during the summer months for outside eating/drinking and the group are currently working on this project. The Men’s Shed meets on Thursdays at 12 noon in the clubhouse.
