Final: Bective 39 - 34 Thomond
Bective Rangers FC banished years of heartbreak by overcoming Munster champions Thomond RFC and securing promotion back to the Energia All-Ireland league last Saturday. On another glorious day at Cill Dara RFC by the ‘Curragh of Kildare’, we witnessed an incredible opening 25 minutes.
There seemed to be no stopping Bective, even with a couple of yellow cards, as they galloped into a big lead. However, the Munster champions showing their resilience, clawed their way back into the game and made the second half a tense affair. However, Bective had just enough in the tank to keep their opponents at arm’s length and claim victory. When the final whistle blew there were joyous scenes on the pitch as the huge Bective support embraced the players and coaches on their fantastic performance. IRFU Committee member Joe McDermott was in attendance and presented the All-Ireland Provincial League Championship pennant to President John Bolger and Captain Tiarnan McCloskey and then presented each squad member with their winner’s medals.
Congratulations to our coach’s Ben Manion, Peter O’Donnell, Rory O’Loughlin, Captain Tiarnan McCloskey, all the players, team managers Ben Kealy & Manual Alonso, kit manager Steve (Rats) Rattigan, S&C coach Sean O’Reilly, physio Sarah McInerney and all the backroom team, on an incredible achievement: Spencer Cup, All-Ireland Jnr Cup, Leinster League Div 1A Champions and All-Ireland Provincial League Champions, 2 Leinster and 2 IRFU pennants with promotion to the Energia All-Ireland League. An absolutely phenomenal achievement that will live long in the memory and history of our famous club.
Compliments must go to Cill Dara RFC for not only hosting the final but also the semi-finals the week before. This rugby community club can be proud of the work of their volunteers, with great parking facilities and ensuring all the visiting supporters were fed and watered with their excellent barbecue and bar service.
The Bective supporters and players headed back to Donnybrook where Mark O’Brien and Sharon Byrne had the taps in full flow. Our 4XV were playing Trinity in the Guilfoyle Cup on the back pitch at 6 pm and won through to the semi-final, so the atmosphere was electric around the club. News also filtered through that the 3XV had a great victory earlier in their O’Connor Cup match, adding to a great day for Bective. The atmosphere in the club was amazing and the celebrations continued long into the night with each of the 3 trophies filled to the brim ensuring that everyone could enjoy a celebratory sip and a good night’s sleep.

U6/U7/U8 - AWAY - BELVO BLITZ - The youngest groups in the club competed at the Belvo Blitz on Saturday and Sunday. All the teams competed really well representing the Bective badge superbly.
U9 - AWAY - BALLYCLARE BLITZ - The U9's represented Bective Rangers brilliantly on their first tour to the Mini Festival in Ballyclare RFC in Antrim. There were over 1,000 kids competing in this event. The team played superbly well, winning 3 out of 4 matches even though there was an age difference and some rule differences also. It was an overnight trip with zip lining also organised for the lads. Well done to Justin White for organising the tour and all the support he got along the way from the coaching team.
U12 - AWAY - CLONTARF - The U12's travelled to Clontarf on Sunday. As usual they competed really well putting in some great performances and winning the majority of their matches.
U14 - AWAY - MALAHIDE - The U14's marched into the Metro Cup Final beating Malahide 24 - 0. The League defeat is firmly in their rear view mirror with a Metro Cup Final and Youth Cup Semi-Final in their sights.
U16 AWAY - LANSDOWNE - For the first time this season the U16's were back together. We welcomed back JCT winners and panellists from St. Michael's, Gonzaga and St. Mary's. There was some unbelievable rugby on show and Bective eventually came out on top winning 40 -33.

BECTIVE MEN’S SHED
The ‘Bective Men’s Shed’ is for those retired members who can give an hour or two on a Thursday to devote to maintenance and development of our premises and for a meet up for tea/coffee. We are keen to develop the rear of the pavilion so that it can be used during the summer months for outside eating/drinking and the group are currently working on this project. The Men’s Shed meets on Thursdays at 12 noon in the clubhouse.
