Bective start League campaign with a 4 try bonus point win
Weekly Newsletter (18 – 24 Sept)
GENERAL UPDATES
A great start to the season as President Michael Shalloe welcomed everyone for the first league match of the new season in the newly refurbished clubhouse. The Pre-Match Lunch was well attended with 110 members and guests sitting down for the meal.
Special word of thanks to our members and our staff for organising a great lunch and ensuring that everyone had a fantastic afternoon.
The President had a busy agenda to get through for his first lunch of the new season. Our guests included the Guiney family where a presentation was made by the President to Conor Guiney to celebrate the Irish Cap recently awarded by the IRFU to his late father Jack.
The victorious Bective U18.5 Leinster Cup winning team took time off from their studies to attend the lunch and Captain Ernie O’Brien was presented with the Cup by coaches Weewah Power and Emmett Sheridan. Lastly, but certainly not least, a presentation was made by the President and Emmett Sheridan of a framed Bective jersey to our member and main sponsor, CEO of Snow Technology, Gary Corcoran.
So on a wet and windy afternoon last Saturday in Donnybrook, playing with a greasy ball, in what was a close and tense encounter, Bective got the season off to a great start with the 4 try bonus point win over newly promoted Wicklow RFC. This continues the positive momentum built up over the last couple of seasons….
Final Score: Bective Rangers FC 22 – Wicklow RFC 21
This Saturday we travel to rural Carlow to face a new challenge as we play the Division 1B Champions and Provincial Towns Cup winners from last season, Tullow RFC. I believe this is the first time in the club’s history that we will play Tullow. As you may be aware Tullow have ex-Leinster, Irish international and B&I Lions player Sean O’Brien as their player/coach. There is no doubt that they will be targeting this game as a must win clash and I would expect a very big home crowd to turn out. The game kicks off at 3pm in Tullow. Please try to come along and support Bernard, Mattie and the team in this important clash and then come back to Bective to watch the Ireland v South Africa game. Tullow also got their League campaign off to a good start with a 33-20 win away to Suttonians.
Remember your support is key to the club’s success.
PS. We will also be streaming the game live with commentary. The link to the live stream will be available on all Bective Social Media Channels and Bective Supporters WhatsApp Group. We will go live with the stream about 15 minutes before kick-off.
2XV: No such worries for our 2XV as they notched up a very impressive win over Wicklow to kick start their season .
Final Score: Bective Rangers FC 50 – Wicklow RFC 0
3XV: The team lost out to a strong St. Mary’s in a pre-season friendly on the back pitch on Fri night. While it was nip and tuck all the way Mary’s ran out the stronger team on the day.
Final Score: Bective Rangers FC 8 – St. Mary’s 36
