Bective mourns the passing of Dr.Bill Mulcahy
Dr Bill Mulcahy, who passed away on 28 Feb was a revered member of Bective. A native of Co. Limerick he played rugby with Bohemians, UCD and Bective, earning 35 caps over his illustrious career, the first in 1958.
He had a reputation as an immensely strong and courageous lock forward, uncompromising and formidable. It was these qualities that saw him selected for the Lions tours to New Zealand and Australia in 1959 and South Africa in 1962.
He continued to play at club level for Bective after his international career and was a role model and exemplar for many young forwards of the next generation.
As a resident of North County Dublin and with a working life as Chief Medical Officer in Aer Lingus, he became a member of Skerries RFC where his son Billy, an interprovincial hooker, played with distinction.
Bill continued to maintain his strong association with Bective throughout his life and this modest, courteous, generous man and giant of rugby will forever live in the hearts of Bective men.
