U17 LEAGUE WINNERS!!!

Happy Easter, what a brilliant weekend for Bective with our U17’s, captained by ex. Mini and St. Michael’s pupil Cian Walsh, overcoming a brave Ashbourne XV late in a dramatic game, to take the honours in the Leinster League final at Skerries RFC last Sunday. Having had the better of the exchanges in the 1st half Bective still went in behind at half time 3pts – 10pts down, and also had to contend with the loss of scrum half Louis O’Brien through injury. However, after the turnaround, an early try by prop Harry Donohue and a massive David Byrne penalty, had Bective leading by 11pts – 10pts only to fall behind again to an Ashbourne try with just 5 mins left on the clock. 11pts – 15pts.  It looked like a mountain to climb now for the Bective players. However, the lads were not to be denied, with the match in added time and after 6 phases of play produced a great break by Dara Keane to set-up Hugh McDonnell to score the winning try and snatch a fantastic victory from the jaws of defeat, 18pts – 15pts. Well done to all the players, coaches/parents on their achievement.

U17 – As mentioned above, 17’s had an epic win in the final of the U17 1A League against Ashbourne playing some scintillating rugby and scoring an unbelievable try in the dying moments to win.  Congratulations to Cian Walsh and the team and the coaching staff of Tony O'Brien, Kieran Walsh and Louis Magee.

U15 - Played a tough Malahide side in the Cup and unfortunately lost.  They played some really great rugby but lost out to a couple of late Malahide scores.  Congratulations to Marcus Kennedy and all the coaching staff for a great season.

U13 - Had a super win in Donnybrook against Malahide in the U13 Youth Plate winning 34 - 19.  They now play Newbridge in the quarter finals.

U11 - Were on Tour in Cadiz playing in a Mini Tournament.  Bective U11 visited San Roque RFC on Sat 23rd March playing with two teams (25 kids travelled) against San Roque RFC and Bahia RFC - both a mix of U11 and U12. Our boys represented themselves and our club exceptionally well - we had a 3-way tie at the end with both Bective Team’s and San Roque RFC sharing the spoils on 7pts a piece (2 wins, 1 loss). Our host, Tiarnach Donnelly, made sure we were all made feel very welcome and we’re hoping to host San Roque RFC back in Bective some time in the future. Thanks to all the parents that travelled, the kids who behaved so well and lastly, but not least, the sponsors who covered the cost of our touring kit - Kevin Gilmore, Rob McGlynn, Colm O’Cleirigh, Alan McGovern and Sinead Gorman. The boys represented Bective amazingly well, playing some great rugby. Congratulations to Paul Hatton and all the coaches.

U10 - Played away in Blackrock and acquitted themselves really well against tough Blackrock sides.  This group continues to perform and gain confidence under the tutelage of head coach Colin Gaffney.
