It is with deep sadness that the Club has to inform you of the passing of former Club President Eddie Bryan. Eddie died peacefully today, surrounded by his beloved daughters.

Eddie Bryan (Out of Africa) was most definitely one of the characters of Bective and will leave a space among those who are regular attendees in the Club. If there was a match at any level being played in Donnybrook, Eddie would always be there and if there was a chance of a pre-match lunch he would be to the forefront in either organising or supporting it.  When a wall needed to be painted or a changing room to be updated Eddie was part of the squad.

Eddie was a Club Member for 70 years having paid his first Membership sub in 1951 and his support and affection for the Club never waned. He spent some years living in Spain and Africa but more than made up for his absent time with his commitment and work once he settled back in Dublin.  From Athlone and a proud “Marist Boy”, Eddie maintained strong links with his sporting interests – Athlone Rowing, Fitzwilliam LTC and (fortunately for us) Bective.

Eddie was Club President for the season 2000/2001 and followed in the reputation of his predecessors by being a welcoming and welcome ambassador for the Club.

The sympathies of our Members go to his daughters Grainne, Eleanor and Emma. Eddie was predeceased by his son Philip and his wife Mary.

May he Rest in Peace
